About the Instructor

Stanley J. Sersen, NCARB, LEED®AP, RS

Stan received his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland in 1978, specializing in environmental design, solar engineering, and structural engineering. He is a licensed Architect in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia and is a National Council of Architectural Review Board (NCARB) certificate holder. In 1984, he was a certified Inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). He earned the Reserve Specialist (RS) designation from Community Associations Institute in 1998 and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED™AP) Certification from the US Green Building Council in 2002. In 2006, Stan earned the Certification as a Charrette Planner (CP) by the National Charrette Institute.

Stan has over thirty years of experience through analysis of thousands of structures, as both a Forensic Architect and Certified Home Inspector through the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI), along with his work in the National Solar Data Network as a solar analyst on passive and active solar designs, and extensive experience on construction projects of all types.

Stan’s architectural firm, Architectural Support Group, was recently the LEED® Commissioning Authority for the Eastern Village CoHousing, in Silver Spring, Maryland. The building was awarded the 2005 Best Green Luxury Multifamily building from the National Association of Home Builders.

As a Forensic Architect and Green Building Consultant, Stan assists clients with creating Certified LEED Green projects. As Founder of the Environmental Design & Resource Center, LLC (the EnviroCenter®), Stan is developing healthy and high performance projects.

I want my project to be used as a Case Study. What do I need to do?

What will General Participants need to bring?
A bag lunch and paper.

What is the difference between the General Participant and the Case Study Participant?
The Case Study Participant will submit his or her green renovation project for examination. If selected, the project will be used as an example during the workshop.

The General Participants will learn from the each Case Study about introductory topics in green renovations.

What are the deadlines for the Case Study Participants’ projects?

  • Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - Initial application
  • Tuesday, February 6, 2007 (If selected as a Case Study Participant)
    • Photos
    • Site plan
    • Drawings (sketches to scale) of house

Can the general participants bring in their plans as well?
No, the 4 Case Studies will address all the introductory issues.

Can the general participants leave early if they don’t want to stay for the Case Study?
No, it is integral to the class that all participants interact and learn from the Case Studies.
